Maestro Fresh Wes - Let Your Backbone Slide

"The Legacy of Maestro Fresh Wes - Trailblazer of Canadian Hip-Hop"

Maestro Fresh Wes on Chatter That Matters

'I’m not making records; I’m making history. Today, my man Tony and I made history with this interview. Maestro Fresh Wes.

‘Fresh’ is part of Wes Williams' stage name, and fresh is how I would describe his perspective and attitude. I promise you that will take away so much from how Wes approaches life and career, and I consider this as essential listening for young people as they will have to diversify their careers and stay relevant as he is.

Wes is credited as the "Godfather of Canadian Hip Hop, " and his debut album, Symphony in Effect, was a Black artist's first certified platinum album. and in 2023, he became the first hip hop artist to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. his song Let Your Backbone Slide", the first rap song, was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters' Hall of Fame.

Stay tuned to the show's end when Mark Beckles, Vice President of Social Impact and Innovation, returns to Chatter that Matters to discuss First Up by RBC X Music and RBC Future Launch.
